John Steele, Adventurer

(4.3 Sterne; 3 Bewertungen)

John Steele, Adventurer was a Mutual network program broadcast from 1949 to 1955. Steele introduced grand stories of danger and adventure, often focusing on the people he encountered in his life of gathering information. The series, while good, might have thrived on larger networks.

Don Douglas starred as Steele, with much of the production and writing led by radio executive Bob Monroe. Monroe was a pioneer in using magnetic tape for radio production, taping rehearsals and editing them into broadcast-ready programs. He also innovated by using pre-recorded bridges throughout the shows.

Monroe's biography reveals intense personal experiences that led him to explore out-of-body experiences. He left radio a wealthy man and dedicated his life to these pursuits, founding The Monroe Institute. The recordings of this series are part of the Joe Hehn Memorial Collection, honoring a pioneering collector of radio recordings.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
