Old Christmas: From the Sketch Book of Washington Irving
Washington Irving
Read by Greg Giordano
Washington Irving's Old Christmas tells of an American's travels through England during the Christmas season. Through a chance meeting with an old friend he is able to experience Christmas in a stately manor house. Through his eyes as a houseguest he glimpses the uniquely British customs and celebrations of Christmas as it would have been experienced during the Middle Ages, rather than in the early 19th century. - Summary by Greg Giordano (1 hr 59 min)

Reviews
A wonderful read around Christmas time
Chickadee Yellowfinch
It sounds so nice to be around loving friends and family, I could also feel a pain in the author's heart, maybe a betrayal or loneliness. Thank you for this reading, it certainly brought me company of a kind to hear a human voice and a wholesome tale
Irving at his best storytelling
F. R. M.
A delightful retelling of Christmas past revolving around Irving's chance invitation from an old friend to join the traditional family Christmas celebration in an old English tradition that was fast fading. The story of the Christmas Eve coach ride, reveling friends and family gathering around the Yule log, colorful characters and their tales of old, the Christmas feast and boar's head, and even recollections of a local ghost. It's all there.
