Command Performance
Dinah Shore, Abbott and Costello, and Fats Waller
por
Command Performance was a variety program created to entertain members of the U.S. armed forces during World War II. This installment features Dinah Shore, the comedy team Abbott and Costello, and musician Fats Waller, bringing together popular song, comedy, and music in one broadcast.
The program’s appeal lies in its mix of familiar performers and varied entertainment, presented as a radio show for service members. Shore’s singing, Abbott and Costello’s comic performance, and Waller’s musical contribution offer distinct styles within the same program.
With its blend of comedy and music, Command Performance captures the lively variety-show format of wartime radio and the effort to bring well-known entertainers to listeners in uniform.
