The Damon Runyon Theater
The Lacework Kid
von
The Damon Runyon Theater brings the colorful world of New York characters created by writer Damon Runyon to radio drama. Its stories center on gamblers, hustlers, show people, and other distinctive figures navigating the city’s lively underworld and theatrical neighborhoods.
Each broadcast adapts a Runyon story into a self-contained dramatic presentation, with dialogue and narration shaped by his unmistakable storytelling voice. The series draws on the author’s affection for streetwise characters, elaborate slang, and situations where schemes, loyalties, and unexpected turns drive the action.
The result is a blend of crime, comedy, and human warmth: tough-edged settings softened by Runyon’s humor and sympathy for his eccentric protagonists. This recording features “The Lacework Kid,” offering a taste of the series’ character-driven tales and its distinctive New York flavor.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
