The Black and White Rag

English · Music, Radio

Bob Wills Roundup is a radio program associated with Western swing bandleader Bob Wills and his music. The title pairs the program name with “The Black and White Rag,” a well-known ragtime tune that became part of the Western swing repertoire.

Listeners can expect a musical broadcast centered on the lively blend of country, jazz, and dance-band sounds that made Western swing distinctive. The music’s buoyant rhythms and instrumental interplay give the program an easygoing, dance-friendly character.

With its roots in the Texas dance-hall tradition, the program offers a glimpse of Bob Wills’s musical world: spirited, melodic, and shaped by the meeting of rural string-band music and popular swing.
