Father Coughlin
Social and Economic Reforms
por
Father Coughlin was a radio program centered on the speeches of Catholic priest Charles E. Coughlin, whose broadcasts addressed social, economic, and political questions. This recording is identified as a talk on “Social and Economic Reforms.”
Coughlin’s broadcasts presented his arguments directly to listeners, combining commentary on public affairs with appeals rooted in his religious and social outlook. The experience is that of a period radio address rather than a dramatized story, with the speaker’s words and delivery at the center.
Listeners interested in the history of radio and the public debates of the late 1930s will find a firsthand example of Coughlin’s broadcast style and the issues he chose to discuss.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
