Command Performance
Winged Victory Edition
von
Command Performance was a wartime radio variety program created to entertain members of the U.S. armed forces. Its broadcasts brought together popular performers from film, radio, and music, presenting a lively mix of comedy, songs, and other variety entertainment.
The program’s appeal lies in its ensemble format: familiar entertainers share the microphone in a fast-moving showcase rather than a single continuing story. The “Winged Victory” edition connects this broadcast with the wartime stage and screen production of the same name, a drama about the experiences of Army Air Forces cadets.
With its blend of star performances and a direct connection to the wartime moment, Command Performance offers a distinctive snapshot of popular entertainment made for service members. The result is an energetic variety broadcast shaped by the performers and the occasion.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
