Avalon Time
The Thousand Dollars
von
Avalon Time is a variety program built around the comedy of Al Jolson, whose lively personality and familiar songs give the show its center. The program blends musical performance with comic entertainment, creating a relaxed mix of jokes, songs, and variety-show moments.
Jolson’s energetic delivery is the main attraction: he moves between spoken comedy and singing, with the broader variety format offering room for other performers and musical contributions. The result is a radio program shaped by performance and personality rather than a single continuing story.
Warm, informal, and rooted in the popular entertainment of its era, Avalon Time offers a chance to hear Jolson’s distinctive stage presence adapted for radio. This recording is identified with the episode title “The Thousand Dollars.”
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
