An Indescribable Beauty
Awa Press
"An Indescribable Beauty" is a captivating four-part documentary series that follows the journey of Friedrich August Krull, a young German immigrant who writes letters home to his mother after arriving in Wellington in 1859. These letters, which have been collected in a book published by Awa Press, provide a unique glimpse into a New Zealand on the brink of transformation.
Produced by Justin Gregory, the series features contributions from Adrian Hollay, Gavin McLean, James Bade, and Marama Muru-Janning. Each episode chronicles Krull's experiences, from his initial excitement and shock at the costs of living in Wellington to his adventures exploring the wilds of Wairarapa and the Kapiti Coast, as well as his reflections on race relations and class during his visit to German settlers in Nelson.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
