Forty Years On
by Alan Bennett
Alan Bennett's acclaimed satirical comedy, Forty Years On, explores the tensions between tradition and change at Albion House, where the retiring headmaster is outraged by the end-of-year play produced by his successor. As he witnesses his beloved standards being mocked, he grapples with a painful nostalgia for a more peaceful, vanished age.
This adaptation for radio features a talented cast, including Eleanor Bron, Robert Bathurst, and Adam Godley, among others. Directed by Gordon House, the production also includes original music performed by members of the East 15 Acting School.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

Firstly,5 stars to whoever uploaded this. I have the C.D. and this is everybody as clear. Listeners of a certain age will remember teachers trying to instill us with the values of the headmaster here and I am ashamed to say I and my schoolmates did belittle them. There is some wonderful subtle humour and poignant nostalgia. The school play sheds a light on many prominent persons and habits of the war years. I suggest you look up the lyrics to the song and you might find yourself examining your life 40 years ago. One of my favourite plays of all time.
