(4.9 stars; 5 reviews)

Cruise of the Poll Parrot is a children's radio show that first aired in 1937, created to promote Poll Parrot Shoes, a brand designed for children. The show was a syndicated serial that was sold in thirteen segment blocks, with three complete blocks still existing today. It significantly boosted shoe sales for the International Shoe Company, helping them compete against the leading children's shoe brand, Buster Brown.

The main character, Captain Roy Dalton, was voiced by Marvin Miller, who was just starting his radio career. The show featured a variety of characters, including Ezra Grange, his sister Sue, and her friend Johnny Robbins, along with a colorful crew aboard the ship Poll Parrot. Marvin Miller later became well-known for his role in the TV series The Millionaire and appeared in numerous other radio shows and films.

Set in 1858 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the show captures the essence of the whaling industry and the adventures of its characters. Source notes: From the Old Time Radio Researchers Group.

(5 stars)

This is a really fun, enjoyable show for anyone, regardless of age - although obviously younger listeners will appreciate it on levels we older folks can't appreciate. So glad these episodes have been preserved for enjoyment!
