The Canterville Ghost (version 2)

(4.6 stars; 89 reviews)

A modern American family move into a traditionally drafty and very haunted English mansion. So far so good but anyone knowing Wilde can expect twists and turns to make it interesting. In this cast the crusty old ghost has a tough time convincing the family he exists and then in frightening them. This is extremely frustrating of course to him and as the protagonist of the story, takes matters (and non-matters) into his hands to deal with the upstart and irreverent new tenants. This is a classic. I lost count of how many times I read this book or saw movies based on it in my lifetime. A very enjoyable listen. Narration is perfect. A must read for everyone. I am sure I will listen to it again.

Phil always reads well... and this book is no exception. I enjoyed the first half of the book but the last half was a bit weird. I would've liked to have the ghost keep on trying!

Boo! ha-ha

Narrator was just as captivating as the story! Great tale! I happened to listen to it on a rainy night, if only for the "mood" of a ghost story :)

Enjoyable for non ghost lover

A fun story. I avoid ghost stories as a rule but did enjoy this short one. Thanks for the lovely reading.

I enjoyed the humor. The thought of a ghost getting frustrated by people that will not scare was a nice angle.
