Marvellous.

Of all the books I have ever read, "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" is one of my favourite novels. Beautiful to the point of tears, painful, haunting, hilarious, it never fails to touch me. It is also decidedly the best librivox recording I have heard so far. Peter Bobbe conveys all the passion, the lust for life and the sadness in his reading. Highly recommendable.

Just so good. We really do not deserve green Peter Bobbe, and yet we have this achievement in audio lit—which probably took him an afternoon; it seems so effortless, yet so perfect—which I cannot stop appreciating. I hope PB knows how special this thing he made really is..

As a student of English Studies I find these book very helpful. They help me to read the compulsory readings of my degree and at the same time I can improve my pronunciation. Thanks a lot for this new way of reading.

Peter Bobbe Saved My Life

(5 stars)

I had to read this book for university, but I was so depressed I couldn't concentrate on the words on the page. I decided that if I was going to mope around in bed, I should at least listen to the audiobook. That was when I came across Peter Bobbe's masterpiece reading. This man is so talented he can turn Joyce's disjointed style into a cinematic experience with the power of his voice. And he did it for free. Brother Bobbe, God bless you. You've helped me more than any professor ever could.

LOVED IT

the voice was so lovely to listen to and I will definitely be reading some more James Joyce

Only for the Really Religious

(2 stars)

This book was on my 100 essential books to read in your lifetime list, but after listening to it I'm not sure why. To be clear, the voice acting was wonderful! The actor had a very soothing tone and was pleasant to listen to. The book itself was not what I had anticipated. I was hoping for more of a story about a creative awakening. However, this story mainly surrounded around the moral and religious turmoil this poor kid put himself through. I'm sure this book will inspire a certain type of person, however I am not one of them.

Outstanding version of a classic

(5 stars)

Peter Bobbe’s reading of Joyce’s masterwork is one of the finest on LibriVox. He brings a full range of expressive reading, deep emotion, and plain great story-telling that does justice to this classic. This is both a book and a reading that should not be missed. I wanted to listen to it again the moment I got to the end. Bravo to Mr. Bobbe: I hope to hear him read many other works.

good stuff

A masterful book that is witty and sad and humorous, sometimes all at once. It's a beautiful portrayal of innocence and the struggles of youth and of coming into ones place in the world. Worth a few reads, I'd say. Well done by the reader.
