A Hero of Our Time
Mikhail Yurevich Lermontov
Read by Kevin W. Davidson
A Hero of Our Time presents a complex exploration of the human condition through the life of Grigory Pechorin, a disenchanted young officer in 19th-century Russia. This novel, structured as a series of interconnected stories, delves into Pechorin's encounters and relationships, revealing the darker aspects of his character and the society around him.
Set against the backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains, Lermontov's work captures the essence of a generation grappling with existential ennui and moral ambiguity. Pechorin embodies the contradictions of a hero and a villain, prompting readers to reflect on the nature of heroism and the vices that plague humanity.
Through vivid storytelling and psychological depth, Lermontov invites listeners to confront uncomfortable truths about ambition, love, and the human psyche. This novel stands out not only for its rich character study but also for its critique of romantic ideals, making it a significant work in Russian literature.

Reviews
Pechorin is a Hero of Our Time, too.

Mr. Davidson is one of the best librivox recorders I have heard so far. This work is a masterpiece, known in Russia as the first great Russian novel, but somehow not commonly read in the Anglophone world. The tale is exciting, expansive like the Caucasus in which the story unfolds, and profoundly human. 10/10 would recommend.

ah, the good old days when the rich were heartless and the women were nervous. Well read.

Excellent reading of a much overlooked novel.
