Woman on the American Frontier
William Worthington Fowler
Read by Bridget Gaige
Many books describe the role of men during American history. However, at the same time, women did much: comforted, fought, helped, raised children, and much more. This book is full of mini-biographies of women in many places, and many ages- each chapter telling about a different subject. (Summary by Stav Nisser) (14 hr 34 min)

Misleading Title: “Woman on the American Frontier”
Holly White
William Worthington Fowler begins his book on a pro-woman note, praising American pioneer women for their intelligence, endurance, resilience, and strength in leadership during tough times. By the end of the book, Fowler attributes the extraordinary actions of American pioneer women to their “manly characteristics” not naturally found in the weaker sex. Then Fowler praises the more “traditional” women’s attributes and domestic roles. Throughout the book is the theme of “look at how savage the Native Americans are” vs “look at how the white American pioneers are reclaiming the land from the savages and taming the savages.” One will read of extraordinary events in pioneer women’s history. However, one must trudge through the author’s own prejudices and opinions to find the main story based on the book’s title.
No Women, No Frontier....
Keith Horvath
To never have realized the role these mighty wonderful & great females lived, prayed & fought is only a beginning. The men knew what the had to undertake. Organize, travel, build & supply his family's basic needs of food & shelter. Yet upon his untimely demise, what is the matriarch to do!?
Women of strength

As the saying goes.... "Behind every great man, there is a better woman". Very interesting, there have always been strong women in the world and still today it seems they have to fight for recognition. Well worth a read/listen. Narrator has just the right tone for every event.
Not to my taste

Too racist, too sentimental, too many adjectives...it's gooey. Narrator does a good job 👏
