Step into the eerie world of Thomas Carnacki, a detective who specializes in the supernatural. Created by William Hope Hodgson, Carnacki navigates the shadowy realms of the occult, employing his unique skills to unravel mysteries that defy explanation.

Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century England, these short stories blend elements of mystery and detective fiction with a chilling exploration of the unknown. Each tale presents Carnacki with a new and perplexing case, from haunted houses to spectral apparitions, challenging his intellect and courage.

Hodgson's vivid storytelling and atmospheric prose invite listeners to experience the thrill of the hunt for the paranormal. As Carnacki confronts the inexplicable, he reveals not only the mysteries of the supernatural but also the depths of human fear and curiosity.

My LibriVox Sentimental Favorite!

(5 stars)

This is the book that first brought me to my beloved LibriVox. Two of these stories were on a list of someone's favorite scary short stories... and they were just a little too obscure to show up anywhere but here. I thought I was in hog heaven when Apple finally allowed us to download library (ie, free) audiobooks onto our iPods. What that did, a little downside, was create audiobook-addicted readers. What is not to love about someone reading to you? And I am nothing if not three things that make them indispensable to my comfort: a bookworm, lazy, and laid up longterm. My reading taste runs to the obscure, and I love that LibriVoxlians will trouble to record texts that are unlikely to attract many readers. LibriVox is like a wonderful second hand shop where everything is free. It is literal treasure hunting, or a dream shopping spree where you can afford everything in the shop! While I'm at it, can i just say the world needs more people like LibriVOX volunteers? thanks.

Good recording; stories themselves are just ok

The recording is fine. The stories are rather like a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Scooby Doo. Not William Hope Hodgeson's finest work, but decent.
