The Blockade Runners
Jules Verne
Read by Mark F. Smith
Writing at the end of the American Civil War, Verne weaves this story of a Scottish merchant who, in desperation at the interruption of the flow of Southern cotton due to the Union blockade, determines to build his own fast ship and run guns to the Confederates in exchange for the cotton piling up unsold on their wharves. His simple plan becomes complicated by two passengers who board his new ship under false pretenses in order to carry out a rescue mission, one which Capt. Playfair adopts as his own cause. This is going make the Rebels in Charleston rather unhappy with him. (2 hr 2 min)

Good stuff, different for Verne
Bobby P.
Mark is becoming one of my favorite readers, he does a great job reading this short story by Verne. It's not fantasy or sci-fi, but wholly entertaining, What I really like is hearing the Frenchman's take on the War Between the States roughly a decade after it ended...makes the story even more interesting for me.

Great reading of a super entertaining tale. no fantastical monsters or mysterious crimes needed... Ships, cannons, and audacity suffice every time.
I really didn't know what to expect from this author. I discover

I also enjoyed this book by Jules Verne. I will look for another by him. I am always disappointed when they are over. I like a good book to be one I can listen to for a long time. But again, no profanity, just a good story.
Nice little adventure

Nice little tale well narrated by Mark Smith Although the ending is pretty easy to figure out, it's still a nice little adventure. I really like this authors work and although it's not one of Verne's classics it's worth lending a ear to. Thank you Mark great job!
