They Shall Inherit the Earth

English · Radio

Words at War presents radio dramatizations drawn from contemporary books about the Second World War. The series brings stories of wartime life, conflict, and human endurance to the microphone, adapting published works for a listening audience.

Each program is a self-contained dramatic presentation, using actors and sound to bring its source material to life. The title “They Shall Inherit the Earth” identifies this installment; the series’ broader focus is on the people and experiences shaped by the war.

The result is serious, documentary-minded radio drama: literary storytelling joined to the immediacy of wartime broadcasting. Its appeal lies in hearing the period’s concerns expressed through performed stories rather than through a conventional news report.
