New World A'Coming

Freedom Road, Part 2 of 2

English · Dramatic Readings, History, Social Science

New World A'Coming brings stories of Black life in America to radio through dramatizations inspired by real people and events. The program draws on the experiences, struggles, and achievements of African Americans, presenting them as vivid human stories rather than distant history.

Its broadcasts combine dramatic performance with historical and social themes, exploring subjects such as community, identity, injustice, and the pursuit of opportunity. The title “Freedom Road” signals a story centered on freedom; this installment is identified as the second part of a two-part presentation.

The series offers a serious, direct listening experience, using radio drama to make Black history and contemporary concerns accessible to a broad audience. Its blend of storytelling and social purpose gives the program a documentary-minded character while keeping the focus on the people at the heart of each story.
