Information Please is a lively radio quiz program built around questions from listeners and the quick-witted panelists who try to answer them. The show’s appeal comes from the contrast between the audience’s often challenging questions and the panel’s broad knowledge, sharp repartee, and willingness to think aloud.

Rather than following a dramatic plot, each broadcast unfolds as an exchange of questions, answers, and conversation. The panel draws on subjects ranging from history and literature to science and current affairs, with host Clifton Fadiman guiding the discussion and keeping the pace brisk. Journalist John Gunther is identified with this broadcast.

The result is an intelligent, conversational program with a playful competitive edge. Its pleasures lie in the panelists’ personalities, their flashes of insight, and the humor that emerges when a difficult question sends them searching for an answer.
