What Happened to Mary

Leído por Patty H

Four-month-old Mary Craig is the idol and sole heir of her wealthy grandfather. Her parents are dead; her grandfather's other descendants have been disowned or disinherited. He protects her like a priceless treasure to the point of paranoia.

And then the unthinkable happens: she is kidnapped. The kidnapper is killed before revealing her whereabouts.

On his deathbed, the grandfather updates his will so that if Mary is not found before she is twenty-one, his other grandchild, Henry, should inherit the estate.

And Mary? She grows up in a fishing village, not knowing who she is. When she's eighteen, circumstances and her own desires to leave drive her from the only home she's known, yet has never fit into.

This book is a novelization of a play and several stories that originally appeared in the Ladies' World magazine in 1913. - Summary by TriciaG
