The Spike Jones Show
Tony Martin
by
The Spike Jones Show brings the irreverent musical comedy of bandleader Spike Jones and His City Slickers to radio. Jones was known for turning familiar popular songs into exuberant comic performances, using unexpected sound effects, novelty instruments, and deliberately chaotic arrangements.
The program centers on musical numbers and comedy, with the band’s playful disruptions giving the familiar sounds of popular entertainment a wonderfully unpredictable edge. Singer Tony Martin is identified with this broadcast, adding a contrasting vocal presence to Jones’s comic musical style.
Expect lively, sound-rich entertainment that pokes fun at polished pop music while celebrating its melodies. Jones’s distinctive blend of musicianship and absurdity makes the show a spirited listen for fans of vintage radio comedy and novelty music.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
