CBS Radio Workshop
Sounds of a Nation
CBS Radio Workshop was an experimental anthology series that brought a wide range of dramatic and documentary material to radio. Rather than following a single continuing cast or storyline, each broadcast offered a self-contained program, with subjects and styles that could shift from one installment to the next.
The series made room for original drama, adaptations, and programs exploring people, places, and ideas. Its title reflects the creative approach: radio was treated as a medium for imaginative storytelling and sound, with performers, dialogue, music, and effects shaping each program’s atmosphere.
That variety gives the series an exploratory feel. Listeners can encounter different kinds of material and moods across its broadcasts, while the production’s attention to voice and sound keeps the experience distinctly suited to radio. “Sounds of a Nation” is the title of this installment.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
