Stan Kenton: My World Is Music
Theme and Variations
by
Stan Kenton’s My World Is Music presents the bandleader and pianist in a program centered on music. Kenton’s name points to the distinctive sound of his orchestra: bold brass, driving rhythms, and arrangements that blend jazz with ambitious, modern orchestral colors.
This recording is identified as “Theme and Variations,” suggesting a program shaped around musical development and contrast. Listeners can expect the focus to be on the performance and the changing treatment of its musical material, rather than on a dramatic story.
The appeal lies in hearing Kenton’s large ensemble bring precision and force to a richly arranged sound. It offers a concise glimpse of the musical world associated with Kenton and his orchestra, with the band’s vivid textures at the center.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
