Light Crust Doughboys
Jean from Abilene
by
The Light Crust Doughboys were a Texas-based Western swing band whose radio performances brought lively country music to listeners. Their sound blends fiddle, guitar, and other dance-band instruments, with a bright, homespun character rooted in the musical traditions of the Southwest.
Rather than a conventional spoken drama, the program centers on musical performance. The band’s repertoire draws on country songs and Western swing, offering a mix of rhythmic tunes and familiar melodies shaped by the group’s ensemble playing.
“Jean from Abilene” is presented here as the title associated with this recording. The appeal is the direct pleasure of hearing an early radio band perform: spirited musicianship, an easygoing regional flavor, and music made for an audience gathered around the radio.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
