What evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows! This collection contains 239 episodes of the great old time radio drama, The Shadow. The show aired for 22 years, from 1932 to 1954, and followed the exploits of amateur detective Lamont Cranston and his companion Margo Lane.

Cranston learned the secret of clouding men's minds to make him invisible, allowing him to become The Shadow and work on the side of law enforcement to prove to young and old alike that crime does not pay! Over the years, Cranston was portrayed by several actors, including the legendary Orson Welles and Bret Morrison. The lovely Margo Lane was portrayed by exceptional talents such as Agnes Moorehead and Grace Matthews.

Unfortunately, only about one-third of aired episodes appear to be currently circulating. My goal is to ensure these excellent artistic expressions of our past are preserved for this and all future generations.

Reviewer: Dave Smith's May 25, 2022 said "Episode 77 is a repeat of the 1st episode Death House Rescue," but in June 2023 the two are very different. Maybe the problem has been fixed, or the number was wrong in his comment. #1 The+Shadow+1937-09-26+(87)+The+Death+House+Rescue.mp3 A fine starting place for new listeners, this episode opens with Margo and Lamont talking about his previous five years as The Shadow, then segues into a case about the frame-up of an innocent man, Paul Gordon, who is about to be executed... Unlike many episodes, The Shadow exhibits telepathic powers beyond the usual "clouds men's minds so they cannot see him." and #77 The+Shadow+1939-11-19+(174)+The+Shadow+Returns.mp3 The title "The Shadow Returns" is spoken at the beginning, and Lamont Cranston and Margo Lane are returning from a "rest cruise" just in time to uncover a bizarre plot involving "strange accidents aboard incoming ships" leading to sailors being mutilated and losing limbs. Ouch!)

I don't know why The Shadow's disguise held for so long because every time Margo is in fear of Lamont's safety, she runs in to where The Shadow is, yelling "Lamont!!" I still love this show though. The hokeyness is strong and sincere!
