In the Land of the Lion and Sun, or, Modern Persia
Charles James Wills
Newly graduated, 24-year-old Charles Wills went to Persia in the role of medical officer to the Indo-European Telegraph Department. This account of his adventures and travels across what we now call Iran between 1866 and 1881 (the middle years of Nãsir al-Dīn Shãh's reign), also includes commentary on the social life in the provinces, along with the geography and products of the country. Humorous and serious anecdotes are recounted with equal verve and a fine appreciation of the ironic. - Summary by Beeswaxcandle
