If you like drama, strange people and events, and impossible predicaments that the main characters somehow always escape death in the nick of time, then this book is for you. If I counted correctly (which can be debatable) some one of the group or the whole group of main characters almost died 10 times. I was entertained, to say the least. Also horrified at the imagination of the author at times. The pace of the book can be quite intense and if you are distracted for a few minutes while listening, you'll mentally return to the book and be very confused as to how the main characters are suddenly almost dying or trapped without any idea of how it came about. And if you are revolted by racist descriptions which were quite common when the book was written, then it would probably be in your best interest to pass over this book and listen to something else so you don't get too worked up in your spirit. The racism is pretty bad in the last third of the book when they are fighting African natives.
