The Voyage Of The Scarlet Queen Singles

(4.9 stars; 5 reviews)

The Voyage of the Scarlet Queen aired from July 3, 1947, to February 25, 1948, bringing listeners the thrilling adventures of Philip Karney, the master of the ketch Scarlet Queen, and his crew as they navigated the seas of Southeast Asia. The show was created by Command Radio Productions and broadcasted by the Mutual network.

While Howard Duff initially played Karney in the audition episode, Elliott Lewis took over the role for the entire series. Ed Max portrayed Karney’s first mate, Red Gallagher. The scripts were co-written by Gil Doud and Bob Tallman, who were also known for their work on The Adventures of Sam Spade. The music was composed by Richard Aurandt, a prominent figure in West Coast radio.

Despite its captivating content, the series struggled to attract sponsorship and was ultimately canceled after a seven-month run due to low ratings. There were attempts to adapt the show for television in 1951 and 1955, but neither effort resulted in a completed production.

Fantastic

I absolutely loved these tales of the Scarlet Queen on the High Seas. Every story was full of drama and the main characters were played superbly by Elliot Lewis and Ed Max. You can't ask for more from a radio drama series and I was sorry to finish them.
