Zubin Mehta Born in Bombay, the charismatic and cosmopolitan orchestra conductor Zubin Mehta has had an international career that has spanned the continents and brought together the Western classical music tradition and the spirit of his native India. Mehta has worked as the musical director of the New York Philharmonic and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and in 1981 he was appointed the permanent Music Director for Life of the Israel Philharmonic.
