The Gabriel Hounds is a classic romantic adventure set in Lebanon, written by Mary Stewart and dramatised by Barry Campbell. The story follows young Chris Mansell as she seeks to unravel the mystery surrounding her eccentric great aunt, leading her into unexpected danger.

When Chris unexpectedly encounters her cousin Charles in Damascus, their youthful impetuosity drives them to visit their Great-Aunt Harriet unannounced, despite a family rule against it. As they venture into the crumbling palace of Dar Ibrahim, they soon discover that the howling of the Gabriel hounds heralds a sinister fate.

Pretty well produced.

I think this is the only Mary Stewart novel I’ve ever read. This dramatization hit the highlights in a much condensed version. Wish they’d retained a bit more description of the landscape and “palace,” as that’s what has remained most vivid in my mind many years after reading the book.
