Adapted by John Hyatt from the novel by Josephine Tey, The Franchise Affair is a gripping tale that unfolds when solicitor Robert Blair receives a call from Marion Sharpe, a local woman in distress. Accused of kidnapping a young woman named Betty Kane, Marion and her mother find themselves in a precarious situation as the police investigate the claims.

As the story progresses, Betty Kane's detailed description of her supposed captivity raises questions that even Inspector Alan Grant of Scotland Yard cannot easily dismiss. With a mix of suspense and intrigue, it takes the keen mind of Robert Blair to unravel the mystery surrounding The Franchise and the truth behind the accusations.

Terrific story, Tey wrote far to few books

Tey was an author alas whom left us far too early. From the ‘Golden age of Detective fiction’ From the time of Agatha Christie. Unfortunate for the author her Father took ill and she had to pause her writing. She was invited to join [apologies I forget title] but it was regular meet up of the female authors of crime fiction where they shared ideas and supported each other; One character who popped up in 2/3 of her books Inspector Grant of Scotland Yard; this author would easily be as well known as Agatha Christie and I am confident her Inspector Grant would be known as well as Poirot Apologies I am wittering on here. The dramatic adaptation by the BBC was well done and this is well worthy of a listen:
