Bert Andrews (news commentary)
Bert Andrews was a Washington, DC reporter for the New York Herald Tribune. He reported from both European and Pacific fronts during World War II and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1948 for his article “A State Department Security Case.” This article detailed the challenges faced by a State Department employee under loyalty investigation, who was unable to learn the charges or allegations against them.
Andrews continued to report on similar investigations until his death in 1953 at the age of 52. He had connections with notable figures such as General Eisenhower and Richard Nixon, and was the uncle by marriage of John McCain.
