He first came to prominence with Sci-Fi scripts, notably his Radio series The Last Rose of Summer which he adapted as his first novel, The Last Rose of Summer and its sequel, Hunter's Moon which he novelised as The Ice Belt (1983) as by Stephen Couper, both set in a Dystopian Britain; and episodes for Doctor Who, two of which he novelised: Doctor Who and Warriors' Gate (1982) and Doctor Who – Terminus (1983), both as by John Lydecker. Remember listening to 'The Last Rose of Summer' on Piccadilly Radio in the mid 1970s and found it a tremendous storyline and radio-enactment. Hearing it on radio led to me buying the paperback. Recommended.
