The Morningside World Of Stuart Mc Lean
Stuart McLean
Stuart McLean on Morningside showcases the early days of one of Canada's great storytellers. In 1984, a young journalist named Stuart McLean was hired as a columnist for CBC Radio's weekly morning program Morningside with Peter Gzowski. His job was to bring extraordinary stories of everyday Canadian life, perfectly suited to his unconventional reporting style.
McLean's journey began in 1971 when he graduated from what is now Concordia University in Montreal. After a brief stint in administration, he pursued his dream of journalism, eventually landing a job at CBC television and later moving to radio. He created what were called "found items"—stories gathered from the corners of Canadian culture. In this program, we hear three of his finest pieces, including a visit to Sweet Daddy Siki's Wrestling School and interviews with ex-cons, showcasing McLean's unique ability to blend light-hearted storytelling with deeper issues.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
