RTÉ Drama on One welcomes The Performance Corporation to present a radio version of their operatic treatment of James Joyce’s best-loved short story, ‘The Dead’. This adaptation, composed by Ellen Cranitch with libretto by Tom Swift, honors the original work while exploring themes of life, love, and death.

Directed by Jo Mangan, the performance features four singers accompanied by a string quartet, creating a captivating atmosphere reminiscent of a Christmas party filled with Joyce’s vibrant characters. The piece has been praised for its engaging composition and its ability to reflect the story's action with considerable acuity.

A radio version of The Dead was broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 in January 2016 and won the bronze award at the International New York Festivals: Radio Programming and Promotions Awards.
