Alejandro Casona Trees Die on their Feet

5

Do means justify ends? When an old lady's happiness is at stake, there is no question. "Do not see me fall. Dead inside, but standing tall. Like a tree.” This poignant story revolves around a married old couple who spend their days regretting the departure of their beloved grandson.

In an effort to alleviate his wife’s sadness, Mr. Balboa fakes letters, pretending they are from their grandson. However, when a real letter arrives announcing his return, the couple's hopes are reignited. Unfortunately, the grandson's journey home takes a tragic turn when his boat sinks. To maintain the ruse, Balboa hires an imitator, along with a kind girl, to pose as the lost grandson. But the real grandson arrives unexpectedly, revealing he is not dead as they had believed.
