The Beulah Show

The Beulah Show features the character Beulah Brown, originally portrayed by white actor Marlin Hurt. The show premiered in 1939 on the radio program Hometown Incorporated. In 1943, Beulah transitioned to That's Life and later joined the Johnson's Wax Program with Fibber McGee & Molly in late 1944.

In 1945, Marlin Hurt and Beulah spun off into The Marlin Hurt and Beulah Show. Following Hurt's untimely passing in 1946, Bob Corley took over the role of Beulah until November 24, 1947, when Hattie McDaniel made history as the first African American female to have star billing in a radio program.

Hattie McDaniel was replaced by Lillian Randolph in 1952 due to illness, and during the 1953-1954 season, Amanda Randolph, Lillian's sister, portrayed Beulah.
