Mae West

This infamous episode of The Chase & Sanborn Hour aired on December 12, 1937, featuring Mae West in Arch Oboler's sketch "Adam and Eve." In this skit, Mae West portrayed an unrepentant Eve alongside Don Ameche's Adam. The performance was so controversial that it led to Mae West being banned from NBC radio, and she did not return to the medium until 1950.

The episode sparked significant backlash, resulting in 1,000 complaint letters to NBC, as reported by Time Magazine. Additionally, a writer named Jane Storm sued NBC and Oboler, claiming that parts of the script were taken from her play, although the judge ruled against her. The skit, which may seem tame by today's standards, remains a notable moment in radio history.
