My Ántonia

My Ántonia tells the stories of several immigrant families who move out to rural Nebraska to start new lives in America, with a particular focus on a Bohemian family, the Shimerdas, whose eldest daughter is named Ántonia. The book’s narrator, Jim Burden, arrives in the fictional town of Black Hawk, Nebraska, on the same train as the Shimerdas, as he goes to live with his grandparents after his parents have died. Jim develops strong feelings for Ántonia, something between a crush and a filial bond, and the reader views Ántonia’s life, including its attendant struggles and triumphs, through that lens. Reviews

Beautiful story. I'm going to listen to it again.

(5 stars)

Beguiling story of life in rural Nebraska in the early1900s.Enough drama to stay with the story, bot no hyperbole. Like a series of photographs or paintings like the one by Camille Corot or Francois Millet about people either trying to get out of poverty or advancing their lives and careers.

Great story for audio, great readers

(5 stars)

Katie Gibboney does an awesome job. Much more than a reader, she seems to enjoy sharing the story, giving tender, thoughtful voice to the book.

Bad reviews are unjust

Any bad reviews for this book and its readers are completely unjustified. All of the readings were wonderful. This is a must read book for Americans.
