"The Wrong of Slavery" is a work written by Robert Dale Owen based largely off of the work of the Freedmen's Inquiry Commission where he served. It traces the early beginnings of the slave trade from its English beginning to the United States Civil War. It puts a focus on the barbarism of the slave trade from capture and transportation to the arrival in the Americas, the extreme cruelties that took place in the West Indies and South America, facts about slavery in the United States, and the advantages of a freed black population to the South. The text is extremely offensive and problematic. It is even more insideous because the author, a cis gendered old white male, honestly believes he is doing good by the so called Negro Americans he purports to free. One of his chapters talks about the Fate of the Black man. He, as an old white cis gendered male, has absolutely no right to talk about black folks. Black folks do not need a crusading whitey to free them. They just need white to die so that they may assume their natural God Hood. Also it talks about freeing men. What about freeing nonbinary Transgendered females. He has a heteronotmative phalogocentric world view that can not simply be erases by his ’desire to free THOSE people’ The text could only be written by an someone such as himself, an old white male. We need to rewrite the text with a black author and replace all the perjorative terms such as 'black' with the more inclusive term BIPOC. In summary Jeff Bezos needs to rewrite this book.
