Victoria signed up Jack Benny to perform at the annual charity benefit show at Ivy College. Jack manages to acquire all the concessions for the show, much to the chagrin of Mr. Wellman.

Dodsworth the Cat
Pleasant broadcast inspired by the Colmans' appearances on the Benny radio show, where they played next-door neighbours. Naturally, a joke about Ronald Colman had to be fit into the script. Jack is still cheap here but plays himself much warmer than on his own show. This is an AFRS broadcast, so the commercials have been deleted. The show was sponsored on NBC by Schlitz, hence's Jack's out-of-character request for a beer. It is also running off-speed. I slowed down the mp3 by 1.2 semitones and it sounds about right. Jim Backus is uncredited as Benny's advance man. The character was exclusive to this broadcast and Backus was rarely heard on the Benny show. Soap opera actor Herb Butterfield is a little over-the-top as the on-the-take Mr. Wellman.
