Bob and Ray WHDH August 4th 1949

Join the comedic duo Bob and Ray as they entertain listeners on WHDH on August 4th, 1949. This 29-minute show, recorded in Norwood, Massachusetts, features discussions about the upcoming Bob and Ray Benefit, baseball, and the Boston Red Sox.

Listeners will enjoy a variety of segments, including a dedicated song for Rhode Island listeners, an ad jingle, and the John J Ling Badwill Hour, reminiscent of classic radio answer man shows. The program also includes a short version of the song "Moonstory" by Ray Elliot, and a satire of horse racing at Revere, Massachusetts' Wonderland Race Track. The duo's witty banter keeps the audience engaged until they remind everyone not to throw stones at people in glass houses, as they will just throw them back at you.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

Are We Not Senile?

No, we are Sturdley. Please buy, nick or find a FREE digital wave editor. Perform modest remastering to these tapes. You need only basic features. —E.g., filters to remove 60 Hz hum, pitch adjust, noise reduction (LESS is more) & EQ to BRIGHTEN the audio (2kHz - 5kHz). 5 -10 minutes of twiddling will make these tapes listenable. Retain original digital transfers. In 25 years, cheap software will exist to make them true Hi-Fi stereo, so don't twiddle too much. I am old, decrepit and well into my dotage. My thumbs are swollen. I butter my toast from the outside. Um, what happened to the Boston Braves? Why do the Dodger caps say "LA" —Love Alston? Where's Ebbets' Field? —Steve Bosco, rounding 3d…

Stretch!

Bob and Ray take their time during the Wonderland dog racetrack spot on this show because it appears they realise the show's over but they have five minutes to fill. They find a way, thanks partly to banter about Bob's summer squash, which appeared on one of the programmes. Since you're wondering, Twilight Harmony won the featured 9th at Wonderland, paying 34.00 12.40 and 7.00. Ray's favourite, Ace's Boomer, also ran. It's raining outside the studios of WHDH but the Red Sox played and beat the Browns 12-2 that day to sweep a series. The two certainly liked to do a Chinese parody of John J. Anthony as it's heard on several programmes. This time, Bing Crosby becomes Bing Brown in the tag promo (he was Bing Barlow on another show), following the 6 pm news with Leo Egan. And remember, that's Chicken, Box 10, WHDH, Boston.
