Sealtest Village Store 1945 01 18 AFRS#70
Sealtest Village Store (rebroadcast by the AFRS as Village Store ) featured Joan Davis and Jack Haley. In this episode, Joan has inherited property in Lemoore, California. The show was produced in front of a live audience at Lemoore Army Air Field. The audience responds with great laughter at local references made in the script. Village Store ran from 1943 to 1945. Joan Davis had a very successful comedic career on radio and in films, with moderate success on television. Her series I Married Joan co-starred Jim Backus (vice of Mr. Magoo and Thurston Howell III on Gilligan's Island ). The show was more popular after its network run ended and the program went into syndication. Davis died in 1961 at age 53 of heart problems. Village Store co-star Jack Haley was best known for playing the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz . This recording was transferred to tape from the AFRS transcription disc in the mid-1970s and has recently been digitized.
