The Royal Book of Oz (version 3)
Ruth Plumly Thompson
Read by Phil Chenevert
"Of course, we all knew the Scarecrow was a very fine fellow, but surely we never guessed he ascended from an emperor. Most of us descend from our ancestors, but the Scarecrow really ASCENDED.
The Scarecrow had a most exciting and adventurous time on the Silver Isle and Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion just ran out of one adventure into another trying to rescue him. They made some charming new friends in their travels—Sir Hokus of Pokes, the Doubtful Dromedary, and the Comfortable Camel. You'll find them very unusual and likable. They have the same peculiar, delightful and informal natures that we love in all the queer Oz people." From the introduction. When Frank Baum died, he left notes for the next book in the Oz series and they were used to write this delightful story. - Summary by Introduction and Phil Chenevert (5 hr 27 min)

Ruth definitely has the Land of Oz, and did a wonderful job keeping the characters true to form. As always, Phill brings the story to life!

I loved this book it had a great adventure and story! Phill is an amazing narrator. All the new characters are cool and find a way into your heart. It made me laugh a lot. The only complaint I do have is that the Scarecrow’s parts can drag on but they pick up! I really recommend you read the WHOLE rest of the books before you listen to this one. The land of Oz is so delicious and delightful it will fill endless hours with Dorothy, Ozma and others. It is a bit racist but it was made a long time ago. But they should put a disclaimer. It calls people from China “yellow skins”. This made me sad and a bit angry but this was how it was back in 19 whatever. I love the rest of the book. Please just keep this in mind if this give you anxiety/makes you uncomfortable but it helped me to remember THIS IS NOT OKAY!!!! So just remember that and this book will fly by in a joyful way. - A Bookworm
