St. Francis of Assisi

(4.8 stars; 32 reviews)

In this brief but lively biography, G.K. Chesterton brings all his typical wit and insight into discussing Francis of Assisi. Francis is arguably the most significant canonised Christian outside of the New Testament. His passionate life included so many elements of the Christian walk: a deep appreciation for evangelism, social justice, the environment, mysticism, pacifism. Chesterton reveals all of these elements, for all their vibrancy and beauty in Francis. ( Summary by Matthew James Gray)

A compelling portrait

(5 stars)

Chesterton paints a compelling portrait of one the greatest and most influential Saints of Catholic History. This story is told in a poetical manner that matches the life of st Francis who was himself a poet and lived his life as a most beautiful poem. Although this work is short in length there is great depth and much to savor.

Chesterton's wit and Francis' life

(5 stars)

A recipe for an absorbing story. From a Catholic perspective it shows both a reverence for history and tradition as well as a reverence for legend and fancy

Well done!

(4.5 stars)

A few hesitations and mispronounciations in most chapters, but otherwise great. Mr Grey has a pleasing voice, and reads with moderation in both expression and speed.
