It is a good story. It moves slowly but deliberately, and even though the ending was predictable, I enjoyed listening to the story unwind. There are an awful lot of subplots running through this "short" story. Whether these become important parts of future stories (or not) - only time will ...

*Small spoiler* Vampire: undead human that drinks blood, has fangs, does not age, and cannot tolerate the light of the sun for any notable length of time. These are my minimum requirements for a vampire. If vampires simply shimmer when exposed to sunlight, that completely ruins the story for me.
