WWII News 1941-05-18 Walter Winchell
This is a contemporary amateur home recording of a live WWII-era radio news broadcast. This installment of Walter Winchell's program features news and commentary presented in his characteristically sensationalist style.
The program is broken up between three sides on two 10" 78rpm disks. While the sides have been joined together, there are gaps between them. Listeners may notice some noise and a few choppy spots near the beginning, as well as some speed variation.
The only information on the disk label is "Walter Winchell 5/18/41".
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

Roundup of Enemy Aliens
Prof. Mark
Interesting that Winchell mentions the arrest of enemy aliens. This may have been in connection with the Alien Registration Act of June 29, 1940, also called the Smith Act. Winchell's report precedes the June 1941 raid on the Socialist Workers Party offices in Minneapolis and the arrest of SWP and Teamsters members. The targeting of Italian and other immigrant groups came a year later.
