Right to Happiness 05 Eps
Irna Phillips
"The Right to Happiness" is an American Old Time Radio soap opera created by Irna Phillips, which was broadcast across the country from its inception in 1939 until its cancellation in 1960. Originally a spinoff of the character Rose Kransky from "Guiding Light," the show premiered on NBC's Blue Network on October 16, 1939.
The narrative follows Carolyn Allen, the daughter of a magazine editor, as she navigates her quest for happiness through four husbands and a jail sentence. A recurring character, The Past, serves as a reminder of Carolyn's tragedies and mistakes throughout the series. Proctor and Gamble sponsored the show for most of its 21-year run, which ended on November 25, 1960, marking a significant moment in the history of radio soap operas.
