Has Wally Ballou visiting a Thanksgiving Parade balloon factory where 8-storey high characters are assembled. They rush an elephant inflation to suit Wally's harried schedule and the resulting explosion is the funniest (and most complex) I've ever heard. A liitle later is the bunny exterminator who sounds suspiciously like Elmer Fudd but prefers scaring them away using "swing shot."

These guys are incredible! This and The Jack Benny Show are the two best Old-Time Radio shows. They've held up really well...still very entertaining and not at all corny or dated. The two main shows here, Matinee with Bob & Ray and Bob & Ray Present the CBS Radio Network, are quite different. I personally prefer the spontaneity, humor, and music of the earlier shows. The CBS shows are only half as long (15 min) and much more structured/scripted. And despite the fact that they're much older, the Matinee shows are typically of a higher sound quality. There is something weird going on with the dates listed for the CBS shows. But I'm not complaining...the uploaders get a Smelly Dave-sized thank you from this happy listener!
Laughs Inside and Out

Listening to these shows opens a whole new look on OTR . Much of what Bob and Ray do is send up the radio shows of its time as well as adding the greatest understated social humor of any time. Its fun to figure out what shows or parts of shows they are skewering and then go find those shows, if you are not familar with them already, and see how sharp the knife went. Aside from the OTR tangent these shows are just plain great comedy. Not always a laugh out loud sort of comedy, often you will find yourself laughing in the depths of your brain...mine makes a nice echo.
The Two and Only!

What a great benefactor of mankind is Mr. Bert Szoghy for depositing this treasure here! The only other place you can get so much Bob and Ray is off an expensive website, with a collection very inferior to this. Granted, some of the recordings duplicate and most need cleaning, but if you know Bob and Ray, it is well worth the work. If you don't know them, get ready for a paradigm shift of fun. Again, thank you Mr. Szoghy!
An unusal show

Hi, Program #bray.1959.10.02_CBS_01.mp3 is a bit unusual, as the boys talk about not doing any impersonations or sound effects in the show at all. I believe this was in response to a complaint that the show was faked - which, of course, it was, in the sense they were performing. Whoever complained had no imagination. Wally Balloo (with 2 o's)
Great Stuff

Although the quality is sometimes spotty, this is great stuff. The subtle humor, the outright buffoonery, and the less then reputable characters portrayed are exquisite.
